With nearly 686 million smartphones predicted to be sold worldwide by the end of 2012, warranty and insurance providers are mitigating risk and providing customers with additional value and security with a unique technology from Irish company, Yougetitback.
The increasing popularity of smartphones has resulted in a growth of 42.7% in Q2 of 2012. This increased popularity comes with the increase of valuable information that is stored on such devices. Cellphone theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States and has even surpassed the theft of cash.
Yougetitback’s service differs greatly from others, including the use of a “bricking” method that was introduced in conjunction with the FCC-CTIA initiative where Yougetitback has the ability to take a Picture of the surrounding area once the device is lost or stolen; it also emits a Screeching sound, alerting members all around of the perpetrator; and has the ability to remotely Fry the phone completely, making the data worthless to any thief.
The growth of mobile malware has also increased with the addition of viruses, worms and malicious software used by hackers. Recent reports state that less than 1 in 20 smartphones and tablets have third-party security software installed in them, despite the increase in threats.
“Providing the warranty and insurance market with a foolproof system to track devices is a top priority,” says Paul Prendergast, CEO and Founder, Yougetitback. “We develop solutions which provide peace of mind for users of mobile devices. We work with large organizations that in turn provide our service to their customers. By doing so we allow enterprises such as Best Buy to achieve key objectives whether it be data capture, mobile commerce rollout, revenue generation or churn reduction.”
“With the increase of apps available to smartphone users, consumer are constantly accumulating personal data on their device like never before,” states Prendergast. “Storing valuable information including bank account details and credit card numbers has made them an increased target for criminals. Apple’s new Passbook app will open the door to even more mobile commerce, and in the wrong hands, that information could cause great harm. Yougetitback is a simple solution to solve a growing problem.”
