Product Adds Support for Windows CE and Windows Mobile and is Now Available as a Standalone Product
Wavelink Corporation announced the availability of its newest version of Wavelink® Communicator, a client-side, push-to-talk solution that enables organizations to use their existing ruggedized, voice-enabled mobile devices as two-way radios. The new release supports additional devices by integrating with Windows CE 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6.0/6.1 and is now available as a standalone product from Wavelink.
“There is significant potential for the growth of voice applications on mobile devices,” said David Krebs, research director for VDC Research. “With its large install base of terminal emulation and management applications already on these devices, Wavelink is well positioned to capitalize on the growth in this market.”
Wavelink Communicator provides push-to-talk communication that allows users to hold one-to-one (unicast) or one-to-many (multicast) conversations. Two-way radio functionality is accomplished without requiring users to purchase additional devices or monthly usage plans. By residing completely client-side, it eliminates the need for costly server-side hardware and software and can be deployed in a matter of minutes.
By supporting Windows Mobile 6.0/6.1 along with Windows CE 5.0, Wavelink Communicator now runs on additional devices from Motorola, Datalogic and Intermec. Communicator is also now available as a standalone product via Microsoft ActiveSync and includes full device-side configuration functionality. As a result, more organizations can extend push-to-talk, walkie-talkie functionality to their existing ruggedized mobile devices and improve their communications flow.
“Voice-capabilities are becoming increasingly more popular as organizations are looking for ways to improve their communications efforts,” said Lamar Van Wagenen, president of Wavelink. “To capitalize on this growing trend, we felt it was important to extend the reach of Wavelink Communicator to additional devices and bring the benefits of push-to-talk functionality to more customers without the traditional cost and complexity.”
Wavelink Communicator is now available through Wavelink partners. For more information about Wavelink Communicator, please visit http://www.wavelink.com/products/communicator.aspx.
