Working Group to Draft Standards for 3D Glasses
The Consumer Electronics Association’s Video Systems Committee today announced the launch of a new working group, R4 WG16. The new working group will address issues with 3D technology including investigating and drafting standards for 3D glasses.
“As evidenced by the range of 3D-enabled products at the 2009 International CES, the 3D video market is growing quickly,” says Brian Markwalter, Vice President of Technology and Standards for CEA. “The creation of CEA's new 3D Technology working group reflects industry enthusiasm for ensuring interoperability among 3D displays, glasses and video sources.”
A recent CEA study in conjunction with the Entertainment and Technology Center at the University of Southern California, 3D TV: Where Are We Now and Where Are Consumers, showed that more than 26 million households are interested in having a 3D content experience in their home signifying the importance of standardizing this growing technology.
