Stuart Golden, founder and CEO of Golden Signals, introduces the company and its first product, DisplayShare
CEDN: Tell us a little about Golden Signals.
SG: Golden Signals strives to provide wireless networking products with a focus on ease of use for the consumer. Our hope is to incorporate wireless technology into innovative products that will enhance the consumers’ experience with electronics without having to deal with the complexities of the underlying technology. We feel that we have achieved that with our first product, DisplayShare. DisplayShare is a unique product for easily establishing a high definition link between a PC and a home entertainment system.
CEDN: How does a user establish the HD link using DisplayShare?
SG: The first release of DisplayShare is a software product that requires a PlayStation 3 [PS3] in a home entertainment system. The user would install DisplayShare on a PC in the home network. With the TV displaying the PS3 welcome screen, an icon identifying the PC automatically appears on the TV screen. The user may then use the PS3 remote or game controller to select the PC icon, and whatever is on that PC display screen appears on the TV. Thus, with DisplayShare software installed on a PC, the wireless link between the PC and the home entertainment system is automatically established.
CEDN: What are some applications of DisplayShare?
SG: DisplayShare is useful in situations where you want to see your PC display screen on a large screen. For example, at a gathering with family and friends, you will be able show your pictures and video on your HDTV instead of having the group crowd around your PC. In fact, Web pages, PowerPoint presentations and any other display that can be seen on the PC screen can be replicated on the big screen using DisplayShare. The wireless link established by DisplayShare also transmits audio, so you can listen to Internet radio or any music stored on your computer through your home audio system. Accordingly, you may take advantage of the high quality speakers in your home entertainment system and not be limited by the sound quality of a PC.
CEDN: How are sales of DisplayShare being handled?
SG: DisplayShare may be purchased through our Web site at www.displayshare.com.
CEDN: What are your plans for future products?
SG: Future releases of DisplayShare software will support gaming stations other than the PlayStation 3. We developed DisplayShare to work in conjunction with gaming stations because gaming stations are already found in many homes. We wanted DisplayShare to be easily integrated into the home entertainment system. We realize, though, that DisplayShare can enable applications where gaming stations are not readily available. For example, in an office setting, DisplayShare will allow a PC user to wirelessly present PowerPoint slides on an HDTV. To enable applications in non-gaming environments, Golden Signals will be releasing hardware products that will establish the wireless HD link.
