Macy's is expanding a successful pilot program offering a variety of CE devices for sale through vending machines inside the department stores. The expansion will bring the unique machines to more than 400 Macy's stores nationwide.
Macy's utilizes ZoomSystems eSpot machines for the program, which featuring a variety of electronics including iPods, digital cameras and accessories. Similar ZoomSystems machines have popped up at locations across the United States including airports, featuring an ever-growing selection of Apple, Sony and other products. According to Macy's products available According to the retailer, vending machine items range in price from $14.99 to $349.99.
The retailing giant was once a staple of the electronics industry, but pulled out of the market about a decade ago. Since Christmas 2006, Macy's has slowly reentered the CE market, first offering a selection of impulse and larger ticket items for the holidays and later testing the waters with more unique retail CE sales strategies such as the vending machines.
