The partnership between Apple and Nike that has created unique ways for athletes to incorporate iPods into their workouts may soon have a new running buddy as Adidas and Samsung today unveiled miCoach -- a music phone that encourages users to keep pace and monitors heart rates and speeds.
The miCoach phone includes a sensor that attaches to pair of running shoes, and even uploads user exercise data to online workout journals that help them track speed, distance and improvement over time.
The new device is seen as the first real challenge to the popular NIke+iPod line of products that launched in 2006. While the miCoach has far less capacity for storing music that the iPods in the Nike+iPod lineup, it does allow users access to full cell phone capabilities during their workouts.
