Sony's PlayStation 3 Edges Out Nintendo Wii For The No.2 Spot
A new Web poll conducted by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) shows that HDTVs are again the most wanted tech toy of the holiday season, edging past video game systems and far higher on the list than digital cameras, cell phones and even next-generation DVD players. According to CompTIA's poll, more than 15 percent of respondents are hoping to unwrap an HDTV this holiday.
The PlayStation 3(which topped the web poll CompTIA conducted last year) finished second in this year's poll and was selected by 13.7 percent of respondents. Nintendo's Wii was selected by 10.8 percent and 10.2 percent wanted Microsoft's Xbox 360.
While both Blu-ray and HD DVD players (other than the PS3) made the list, with Blu-ray edging out its rival by a half-percentage point, neither format has hopeful shoppers clamoring the way they are for the video game systems and other CE goods. The CompTIA top ten includes:
1. HDTV - 15.2 percent
2. Sony PlayStation 3 - 13.7 percent
3. Nintendo Wii - 10.8 Percent
4. Xbox 360 - 10.2 percent
5. Personal computers - 9.8 percent
6. Digital camcorders - 5.6 percent
7. Digital cameras - 4.9 percent
8. Mobile phones - 4.5 percent
9. Blu-ray DVD players - 3.5 percent
10. HD DVD players - 2.9 percent
