Rumble has returned to Sony console gaming at the Tokyo Game Show today, with the CE giant's unveiling of a new controller dubbed DualShock 3 for the PlayStation 3 console that provides force-feedback to gamers for a more immersive experience.
Commonly known as rumble, the force-feedback functionality was a part of Sony's previous PS2 console -- as well as former and current consoles from Microsoft and Nintendo -- but was originally derided by Sony executives as "last generation" when unveiling the PS3 late last year. In its place, Sony offered gamers a controller that had limited motion sensing capabilities, akin to Nintendo's Wii console. Sony announced today at TGS that the DualShock 3 will be available in the U.S. in the spring and that many games already on the market would receive updates to incorporate rumble functionality.
Also not coming until the spring is PlayStation Home, an open-ended game/community similar to Second Life that Sony first unveiled at this year's E3 event. The company had originally planned to release home in mid-November, and executives at TGS did not elaborate on the reasons behind the delay.
