Computer giant Lenovo Group is reportedly moving into the wider consumer electronics market with plans to establish a CE unit headed by company Chairman Yang Guanqing, Shanghai Daily reports. The world's #3 computer manufacturer has not commented on the report.
The new unit reportedly consists of a full framework for CE development, design and production, including finance, marketing and other departments. The company recently denied a rumor that it was splitting into two companies, one for commercial electronics and the other focused on CE, but has made no further comment on its future plans.
Shanghai Daily cites an internal announcement via email, reportedly sent out to key Lenovo employees today confirming the restructuring from CEO William J. Amelio, who has previously said that the company is poised for significant sales growth in the consumer market this year.
