The number of Sony batteries recalled from notebook computers continues to tick upward. Tack another 340,000 to that list courtesy of Toshiba, though luckily these are not the explosive problem faced by Dell and Apple.
Toshiba initiated the worldwide recall this morning of Dynabook and Satellite laptops. Batteries in those two units have failed unexpectedly or simply failed to recharge.
According to Bloomberg News, Toshiba said that the defect was not directly related to the recalls by Dell and Apple of Sony batteries last month, amid concern that those batteries could overheat and catch fire. Dell asked customers to return 4.1 million faulty laptop batteries, while Apple recalled 1.8 million.
